Chapter Five

HE’D BEEN SO damn mad all day, but all it had taken to defuse him was three little words. Three words he hadn’t expected. All day he’d been worrying and doubting and rethinking every second of the time he’d spent with Trevor. Not just in the bathroom this morning but every day, every hour and minute since the first time they’d met.

Cruz had been so deep in his thoughts, in his wonderings, that he’d played awful today. He’d missed easy plays. He’d screwed up and gotten chewed out by his manager, and the worst part was, he didn’t even care. Not about baseball. For the first time in his life, he’d been more worried about where his personal life was going than where his professional one was.

He’d been so sure what had happened with Trevor was going to be a one-off. After a lot of thought, he’d resigned himself to the fact that the next time they were alone Trevor would undoubtedly say it had been a mistake. Trevor had admitted he was gay, but then he’d asked Cruz not to say anything to anyone. He’d been certain he knew what was coming as soon as Trevor opened his mouth.

Never had he been so happy to be wrong.

Trevor hadn’t said it was a mistake. He’d said what they had was special. It was everything. He’d said he was going to come out, for Cruz. He’d said he loved him. Love. Trevor loved him.

Cruz’s heart felt like it was going to explode. Of course he loved Trevor. He had for a very long time. He’d been instantly attracted to him, but it had become so much more than that.

Their friendship had become a foundation they both grew under. Supported each other. Pushed each other. Respected each other and the game they both played. They understood each other in ways nobody else ever could because they lived the same life.

They were perfect for each other, and Trevor had finally, finally realized it.

Cruz knew there was so much more they needed to talk about. Saying those three little words didn’t cement anything. It didn’t get rid of the obstacles that would stand in their way. It didn’t explain why Trevor had admitted his feelings now. They needed to talk.

But right now, Cruz couldn’t manage to unlock his mouth from Trevor’s for more than a second to gasp in much-needed air.

“Pants off,” Trevor growled, releasing his cock long enough to push at his jeans and boxers. “Now.”

Cruz shivered at the desperation in Trevor’s voice. The demand. The need. He’d always known Trevor would be the one in control if they ended up like this, but he hadn’t imagined the frenzy or Trevor’s shaking hands. He hadn’t imagined his own shaking as he helped to kick off his shoes and then shimmied his hips to help get his pants off.

Once he was naked, Trevor stilled momentarily, and Cruz bit his lip. He could feel those beautiful blue eyes taking him in from top to bottom.
